The Tool Lending Library provides an opportunity for all homeowners to borrow the tools necessary to repair or beautify their own homes.

Located at the East Euclid ReStore, the Tool Lending Library helps ensure that everyone can have a decent place to live.

About the Tool Lending Library

At Habitat for Humanity, our mission is to make affordable homeownership possible.  Our Tool Library allows homeowners to borrow tools to repair or improve their homes. The membership fee is $195 per year (less than the cost to rent a single tool at some big box stores). Discounted memberships are $25 based on assessed home value, as reported by the county assessor, and household income.

Interested in borrowing a tool?

We have over 400 tools available, ranging from saws, drills, and mowers, to paint sprayers and ladders. The Tool Lending Library is located at our E. Euclid ReStore, located at 2200 E. Euclid Ave., Des Moines. Membership allows you to check out any of the tools we have in stock, so apply today!

Here’s How it Works

  • Tools are loaned for 3 days at a time.
  • Tools are loaned based on an annual membership fee rather than a per-tool rental.
  • We operate on a sliding-scale based on income. The membership fee is $195/year. Discounted memberships are $25 based on assessed home value and income qualifications.
  • Memberships are currently available to individual homeowners. Homeownership will be verified using the county assessor’s website. Memberships cannot be issued to landlords, renters, contractors, or individuals for trade.
  • There is a $5 fee per day for tools returned late.
  • A cleaning fee of at least $20 will be assessed for tools that are returned without being cleaned properly.
