Construction

Individual volunteer opportunities on the build site

Help make dreams of homeownership a reality for hardworking, low-income families in our new home construction builds. Volunteers assist with framing, siding, flooring, trimming, painting, installing doors and windows, landscaping and more! No experience is needed; our construction managers will teach you anything you need to know on site.

Volunteer opportunities are open to the public on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have any questions regarding volunteer opportunities, please contact the Volunteer Engagement team at kwood@gdmhabitat.org or 515-318-7074.

We plan our sites about two weeks in advance and will close all shifts for the following week on Monday, so please sign up by Monday of the week before your desired volunteer day.

Before signing up for community service hours, please call our Volunteer Engagement Team at 515-218-7731 to talk through our Community Service Program.

Schedule a group

Groups can vary in size (typically between five and 14). Just register below and you’ll be contacted by a real person with a custom link for you and your group to use. Sign up is easy and everyone will be able to sign the waiver online (keepin’ it green). Everyone who signs up online will get all the details about their build a week before.

Adopt-A-Day

Your organization sponsors a day of work by making a contribution to GDM Habitat. Your group will work under skilled leadership of our site supervisors on one of our houses in progress. No experience required. Only your group will be on the work site and you will receive priority placement of work date.
 
As an Adopt-a-Day sponsor, your contribution supports GDM Habitat’s mission and allows for a great team-building exercise. Funds can be raised by individuals, companies, or through other grants. Adopt-a-Day Sponsors can provide 12 – 25 volunteers on their build and will have their names displayed on site and on Habitat’s website. They will also receive t-shirts for each participant. An Adopt-a-Day Sponsorship ranges between $2,500 and $5,000, which depends on the numbers of volunteers.

Home Preservation Program home repairs

Assist residents with needed repairs and maintenance to make their homes safe, accessible, comfortable, and eye-catching. Most projects consist of weatherizing windows, doors, and siding; building decks or ramps for easier accessibility; painting or landscaping; and much more!
