In this role, you’ll handle donated items and be responsible for product listings and accurate photography on our online Shopify platform. You’ll also be involved in donation processing, product loading, and tackling various daily tasks.

eCommerce Duties:
- Create Shopify listings online while ensuring accurate descriptions and photographs of items being sold.
- Eye for unique products to post as donations come in.
- The ability to capture an accurate inventory of all items for eCommerce and maintaining a well-organized eCommerce area.
Receiving Duties:
- Receive donated goods and verify each item is in sellable condition.
- Price product to be stocked on shelves.
- Work with ReStore volunteers on various tasks, delegating tasks when necessary.
- Provide impeccable customer service to customers of ReStore.

The IT APPLICATION SUPPORT AND SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR role has three primary responsibilities:
- Responsible for performing application and systems support, including system maintenance, break-fix, upgrades, and patching to ensure that the applications and systems supporting the affiliate can operate effectively.
- In consultation with leadership, support the enhancement, development, configuration, and improvement of applications, creating new capabilities and value for the affiliate.
- Provides technical leadership, in partnership with affiliate departments, to oversee 3rd party IT providers, security controls, and data management strategies.
Core Responsibilities:
Application Support:
- Provide technical support and assistance to staff members in using various software applications. These applications include Microsoft 365, Quickbooks, BuilderTrend, and Retail Hero.
- Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and implement appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with vendors and developers to resolve complex application problems.
- Conduct regular application updates and patches to ensure system stability and security.
System Administration:
- Partner with 3rd party technical support organization to manage and maintain the IT infrastructure, including servers, databases, and network systems.
- Support the installation, configuration, and upgrade of software and hardware components as needed.
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize system resources.
- Implement data backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical information.
User Training and Documentation:
- Identify and provide training resources to educate staff on efficiently using technology systems.
- Create technical documentation and knowledge base articles to facilitate self-service troubleshooting.
- Assist in developing and implementing IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
Security and Compliance:
- In partnership with leadership and 3rd parties, ensure the integrity and security of the IT systems and data.
- Implement and enforce data protection measures and access controls.
- Stay up to date with the latest IT security trends and proactively address potential vulnerabilities.
- Ensure compliance with all software licensing agreements, manage and safeguard software media and associated licenses, track software versions.
Vendor Management:
- Partner with software vendors and service providers to maintain effective relationships.
- Coordinate with vendors for software license management, upgrades, and support.
- Evaluate new technology solutions, conduct vendor assessments, and partner with affiliate leadership on recommendations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience or relevant certifications).
- 5+ years of proven experience in application support and systems administration roles.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft systems, databases, and networking protocols.
- Familiarity with web-based applications, content management systems, and customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Perl) for automation and system integration.
- Solid understanding of IT security principles and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

- Experience working in a nonprofit or volunteer-based organization is a plus.

ReStore Associate
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a discount home improvement store with new and gently used items including appliances, building materials, flooring, rugs, hardware, and more. All purchases help support Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s work to provide affordable housing.

POSITIONS OPEN AT BOTH RESTORE LOCATIONS:

As a ReStore Associate, you may help process donations, load and unload donations and store inventory, and assist customers as needed. Tasks include cleaning, pricing, stocking, rearranging items, cashiering and providing friendly customer service at all times.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers by providing high-quality customer service
- Answer customer questions regarding the ReStore in general, specific items and projects
- Ensure that all areas of the store/warehouse are safe, clean, organized, and safe
- Guard against theft
- Operate cash register to ring up customers
- Assist with the receiving of inventory
- Assist customers with purchases – lifting, carrying and loading items up to 80 lbs.
- Move materials from warehouse to store floor
- Evaluate condition/acceptability of incoming donations
- Price materials to be sold
- Display merchandise in a way that maximizes sales
- Guide and assist volunteers as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Great track record of providing excellent customer service
- Basic knowledge of tools and home repair/remodel required
- Ability to pass criminal background check
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents

GROUNDSKEEPER
THE JOB:
The Groundskeeper works closely with the Facility and Asset Manager to ensure an inviting and comfortable environment for Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity (GDM Habitat) staff, volunteers, clients, customers, and supporters. By investing in the maintenance of the facilities and grounds operated by GDM Habitat, the Groundskeeper will help create a positive first impression for visitors and community members that supports the Habitat mission and brand.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs grounds maintenance of GDM Habitat for Humanity Office and ReStore locations. Grounds maintenance includes, but is not limited to: snow removal, lawn care, parking lot maintenance, trash removal, and tree care.
- Performs grounds maintenance of GDM Habitat for Humanity vacant land inventory including but not limited to: lawn mowing, weed removal, and trash removal.
- Performs building maintenance of GDM Habitat for Humanity Office and ReStore locations. Building maintenance includes, but is not limited to: performing basic repairs, painting, replacing light bulbs, and assembling office furniture.
- Addresses safety issues at the Habitat facilities and proactively seeks out potential safety issues.
- Determines needed supplies and materials to complete projects with a focus on upholding a budget to be a good steward of resources.
- Cleans and repairs tools and equipment used in maintenance and operations, including assigned vehicle.
- Maintains a list of maintenance opportunities to be completed by volunteers. Collaborates with the Volunteer Engagement team to lead volunteers in completing assigned tasks. Prioritizing safety and the volunteer experience.
- Ensures that the facilities are clean and maintained according to company policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
Describes the minimum education and experience, certifications, licenses, physical demands, working conditions and skill sets needed to perform the job.
- Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to facilities management.
- Valid Driver’s License required. Able to drive Habitat or personal vehicle to work sites or vendor locations in the Greater Des Moines area and surrounding counties.
- Ability to analyze and exercise sound judgment, balancing a variety of perspectives to affect a positive outcome.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently.
- Basic word processing skills, comfort with using the Internet, and ability to learn new skills as necessary. Knowledge of Microsoft products, including SharePoint and Teams preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Some evening and weekend availability required, particularly during peak snow removal season.

Over the last 30+ years, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 400 individuals and families become homeowners. We need exceptional people who are excited about working in the construction industry to participate in our intern program. Serving through an on-site internship means taking part directly in Habitat for Humanity’s initiatives to increase access to affordable housing. Participants will have a chance to create long lasting, positive impact on the lives of neighbors in our communities, as well as gain practical experience in a variety of marketable skill sets.
THE JOB:
Our interns work alongside our construction team and gain valuable leadership and construction skills.
This could include:
- Install siding
- Install flooring
- Paint
- Learn all aspects of home repair
- Interested in learning to build a home from the ground up? We do that too. Learn to frame a home, install windows, doors etc
In addition to these tasks, our interns lead small groups of volunteers, ensuring that they learn about Habitat programs and build processes while on the work sites. Interns must have a willingness to coach and serve alongside volunteers indoors and out, in all kinds of weather conditions.
REQUIRMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in a Building Trades program or Construction Degree and be within 6 months of graduation.
- Some construction experience preferred, but the ability to learn and work well with others is required.
- Willingness and ability to climb ladders and scaffolding for purposes of home repairs, home construction or other neighborhood revitalization activities.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and pay attention to detail.
- Desire to serve with diverse team of staff, volunteers, partner families, and neighborhood residents.
- Committed to GDM Habitat’s mission, vision, and values.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- The hourly rate for this intern position is $17.00/hour.
- The term of the internship is generally up to 6 months with the option to extend or roll to a permanent position.
- Construction Services generally works 7:30am-4:30pm Tuesday-Saturday.
- Interns work between 20-40 hours per week.
