A world where everyone has a decent place to live – Habitat for Humanity embraces this vision. At GDM Habitat, we magnify the impact of our local work through global giving and hands-on service learning opportunities.
Together, we have built hope for more than 900 families outside the United States since 1987, with lifetime financial support surpassing $4 million. We have also led 25 teams of GDM Habitat Global Village volunteers to build and learn alongside hard-working families in Nepal, Malawi and El Salvador.

Our International Partners

El Salvador
El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. Habitat El Salvador has been a tithe partner to GDM Habitat since 2004. They were selected because of the overwhelming need for new and improved housing in the country as well as numerous community connections between people in the Des Moines community and El Salvador. We last built and learned in El Salvador during January 2024 and are planning to return in January 2025.
Nepal
Nepal is a land-locked Asian country bordered by India and China. Habitat for Humanity Nepal has been a tithe partner since 2014. Refugee camps in Nepal once served as homes to more than 100,000 Bhutanese, some of whom have settled in Central Iowa and become GDM Habitat homeowners. Our last Global Village trip to Nepal was in November of 2019.
Malawi
Malawi is a small, land-locked country in southeastern Africa. Habitat for Humanity Malawi has been a tithe partner since 2014. We are inspired by Habitat Malawi’s work providing homes that allow orphans and vulnerable children to remain in their own communities, as well as their collaboration with microfinance institutions. Our last Global Village trip to Malawi was in July of 2019.
