About the Tool Lending Library

At Habitat for Humanity, our mission is to make affordable homeownership possible.  Our Tool Library allows low-income homeowners to borrow tools to repair or improve their homes. A membership gets you access to more than 400 tools for home maintenance, renovation, lawn, garden, DIY projects, woodworking, metalworking, and more for a full 365 days. Renting or owning tools can be very costly.  If you have the skills to do a project yourself, we can help make that project more affordable. The membership fee is $200/year. Discounted memberships can be as low as $25 based on income qualifications.

Once you have downloaded and filled out your application, you will need to bring a photo ID when you submit your application in person at the East Euclid ReStore (2200 E. Euclid Ave., Des Moines, IA, 50317).

More Information

• Tools are loaned for 3 days at a time.
• Tools are loaned based on an annual membership fee rather than a per-tool rental.
• We operate on a sliding-scale based on income. The membership fee is $200/year. Discounted memberships can be as low as $25 based on income qualifications.
• Memberships are currently available to individual homeowners. Homeownership will be verified using the County Assessor’s website. Memberships cannot be issued to landlords, renters, contractors, or individuals for trade.
• There is a $5 fee per day for tools returned late.
• A cleaning fee of at least $20 will be assessed for tools that are returned without being cleaned properly.
