Update regarding COVID-19

Our number one priority is, and always has been, the safety of our ReStore employees and customers. The ReStores have recently taken increased measures to ensure that all who interact with the stores remain safe and healthy during the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

General Questions

What is Habitat for Humanity ReStore?

Habitat ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores that collect donations and sell new, used and suplus merchandise at discounted prices to the public. In addition to providing customers with low-cost building materials, Habitat ReStores help the environment by diverting usable materials from local landfills.

Are Habitat ReStores open to the public?

Yes, everyone is welcome to shop, donate, or volunteer at the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity ReStores.

What are the store locations and hours?

Tuesday – Saturday 10:00am – 6:00pm. Our two stores are located at 2200 E Euclid Ave, Des Moines and 4033 NW Urbandale Dr, Urbandale

How often do you get new merchanside?

We get new merchandise on a daily basis.

Are the prices negotiable?

No. We make every effort to monitor the costs of similar products at retail stores and we typically offer at products for sale at a fraction of those prices. Therefore, since we believe that we are offering our shoppers a deep discount and value for their dollar, we do not negotiate. Income generated by ReStore contributes to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and helps create homeownership opportunities for families in our community.

What types of payment do you accept at the ReStore?

We gladly accept debit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and cash. We do not accept checks.

Can ReStore deliver my purchase?

We do not provide delivery service at this time. However, we can hold your items for up to three business days after your purchase the items so you can secure appropriate transportation.

Does ReStore take returns?

You may return your purchase to the original store within 10 business days with the original receipt. We do not offer refunds; however, we will offer you a store credit that that store.

How are the proceeds from sales used?

100% of the net proceeds support the mission of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity.

If I call the ReStore, can someone locate a specific item and price for me?

Yes, we would be happy to check if we have that item available and its price. We also encourage you to come in and see our ever-changing products to make sure the item is what you truly want and explore other available options.

How do I donate to Habitat ReStore?

You can drop off your items at any of our stores from 10:00am – 6:00pm Tuesday – Saturday. We also provide a free pick-up service for those in the greater Des Moines area.

Are my donations tax-deductible?

Yes, you will be given a tax receipt that you will be able to use for deduction purposes.

Does Habitat ReStore place a value on donations for tax purposes on donated items?

No, the value is determined by you and/or your accountant.

Can ReStore pick up my donations?

Yes, we provide free pick-up service Monday – Friday for those in the greater Des Moines area. To schedule a donation pick-up you may call 515-309-0224 or fill out a request online here.

Can the ReStore pick up donations that are inside my home?

No. Unfortunately, our insurance policy prevents our staff and volunteers from entering houses for the purpose of picking up material donations. All donations must be left outside or in a garage area for pickup.

How soon can you come pick up my donation?

We schedule out anywhere from the next day to a week out depending on the time of month and your location. You can call to schedule a pick up at 515-309-0224 or schedule your own pickup online here..

Is there a fee to have my donations picked up?

There is no fee for pick-ups. If you want to make a financial donation to help cover our transportation costs, you can do so here. The more we save on costs, the more we can do for low-income homeowners in Central Iowa.

Does the ReStore offer building deconstruction services?

Yes, we do offer a kitchen cabinet removal / deconstruction service. To learn more or request an assesment, please check here.

Does the ReStore repair donated items and materials?

Unfortunately, we currently do not have the resources to repair or touch up items, which is why we only accept lightly used donations that are in good, working condition.
