Concept: Design a potting shed that could be built mostly from salvaged materials, have multiple configuration options and be easily constructed by homeowners.
With a trip to the Habitat Restore, we found exactly what we needed. By panelizing the structure with doors, we created a structure built primarily from salvage materials from the ReStore. The cedar elements serve to join the panels together, but also make a great contrast with the color of the door panels,. Both serve to anchor the shed into its surrounding garden environment. The paint, interior counter and fasteners were all found at the ReStore as well. While the placement of doors and door types could vary depending on the availability of product, we opted to use two patio doors to define entry into the shed. This allowed ample light for the small room, and provided easy accessibility for storage on one side of the shed and a potting counter on the other. Notice the water drainage to the rear. With an added gutter below the eve, it would be very easy for a gardener to add a rain barrel and harvest storm water for irrigation.
