Regina Rokes struggles daily with life as a single mother of four. She and her children currently live with her mother in a two bedroom house. They deal with the overcrowding as best they can, making a temporary bedroom in the attic as well as the basement. Her oldest Amber (19) is newly engaged, her son Shawn (16) goes to North and her two youngest children Tylinn (5) and Jahvon (2) attend Child Development Center. Regina has worked at Accent Tag and Label for almost 9 years. Even with the steady job, raising her children has been difficult without the help of child support.
Nevertheless she has found help from caring friends and family, and now through her partnership with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. With a full time job and a large family, logging her sweat equity hours has been a challenge, but she has gotten help from those who care. Her son and nephew have spent numerous hours working on the task to help out and even her daughter’s softball coach has gotten involved by babysitting whenever she can so Regina could work on the home. With the support of friends, family and her partnership with the community through Greater Des Moines Habitat, Regina will soon have a home of her own with the room she needs to provide for her children.
