Rhonda Clayborne

Claybornecom.jpg

Rhonda Clayborne is a single mother of two, Kamaye (22) who aspires to go to school for nursing and Dre’shelle (13) who is interested in fashion design.  She also has a granddaughter, A’shyia (3), who she used to care for daily when she ran an at home daycare center.  As a single mother, Rhonda definitely knows how important her children’s futures are and by owning her own home she will have built something of value to leave for her children.

Rhonda is originally from Des Moines and currently lives in a rental home where she and Dre’shelle live.  Even though she is maintaining a steady job at Wells Fargo, rent has been draining on her monthly income and she knew that there had to be a better option for her family.  That is where the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity came into the picture.  Rhonda heard about Habitat from a friend, called and asked when the next application meeting was and started the process of partnering with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity.

In her free time Rhonda likes to shop, travel, and enjoys spending time with family.  This will be the first time Rhonda has owned her own home.  She looks forward to the responsibilities of owning a home and is particularly excited to decorate it.

Rhonda says that sweat equity has taught her so much, she thinks she, “could probably build a house” on her own!  Rhonda also enjoyed her Blueprint to Homeownership classes where she learned about being a homeowner and was able to meet friends and neighbors.  She drives by the house at 1164 14th Place constantly, but she won’t have to much longer because after June 22nd she will be able to pull into her own driveway and walk into her home that she has worked so hard for.
